Lifetime China Prairie Gold Platter

Lifetime China Prairie Gold Platter - click for full size viewDescription -- White Body with gold edge ring and gold wheat on rim. 13 1/4" x 10 3/8". Excellent used condition with light use wear. No chips,cracks or crazing. Current (11/09) replacement value $27.99. This is the smaller of the two 13" platters in this pattern. The other is 13 3/4". The replacement value is a little lower for the larger plate.
Historical Data -- The Lifetime China Company was based in Alliance, Ohio. They were a decorating and distributing company. The blanks for this plate was probably made for them by the Homer Laughlin Company.

Alfred Meakin Connaught Saucers
Alfred Meakin Connaught Saucers - click for full size viewDescription -- Great wall or shelf display items. Multicolored floral pattern with gold trim. These are 5 7/8" saucers. No damage, very good used condition except for visible crazing closeup. I estimate (10/09) replacement value on these saucers to be $4.99 each.

Historical Data -- Alfred was the brother of James and George Meakin and founded the pottery in 1874. He ran a very successful business mass producing tableware for both the domestic market, and the growing export market of the 40's and 50's. In 1976 the pottery merged with Myott, Son and Co, who were later bought by the Churchill Group in 1991.

Stangl Yellow Pitcher - click for full size viewI purchased this pretty Stangl pitcher and did not realize until I got it home that there was a major chip under the spout (I must be getting old). I will probably not list it, but it has an interesting mark that I intend to research and report on here later.

Metropolitan Shape designed by Morris B. Sanders in 1940. Tiempo was a single color version of the duotone Metropolitan pattern. Each color was assigned a name from nature and a standard name (gray-stone,apricot-copper, green-sprout). First issued in 1949 and discontinued in 1954. Excellent used condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. Light wear.

Historical Data -- Gladding, McBean and Company started in 1875. The company grew and acquired other potteries. They made sewer pipes, floor tiles, dinnerwares, and art pottery with a variety of trademarks. In 1934, dinnerware and art pottery were sold under the name Franciscan Ware. The company became Interpace Corporation and in 1979 was purchased by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons. The plant was closed in 1984 and all production was moved to England.
